Marker Wadden
Marker Wadden
Marker Wadden is a major project to restore nature to the Markermeer. By constructing nature islands with sand, clay and silt from the Markermeer, new nature will develop. Both under and above water. A natural paradise for fish and birds and a wonderful recreational island. With the construction of Marker Wadden, Natuurmonumenten, Rijkswaterstaat and Boskalis are creating a robust nature area in the heart of the Netherlands, where we are innovatively building with and for nature. With an initial contribution from the National Postcode Lottery, this project could get underway.

Activities
Marker Wadden is a new area for nature, but also for people. The islands are easily accessible. Natuurmonumenten thinks it is important that the islands are accessible to people. This was therefore carefully considered during the project. For instance, the harbour mouth is wide enough to moor and there is a nice 800-metre beach behind the harbour. There are footpaths, boardwalks, bird-watching huts and an observation tower overlooking the beautiful nature.
Visit
The Harbour Island of Marker Wadden is open to the public. It is accessible by your own boat, or by means of a ferry that makes occasional trips from Lelystad. There are also charter boats offering day trips.
Haveneiland has been open to the public since September 2018. Discover this new habitat for plants, insects, fish and birds. A natural paradise where you can enjoy a new beach, new walking paths and new bird-watching spots.
As a contribution to the management and maintenance of Markerwadden, an area contribution is requested.
