The cycle route 'Lelystad's most beautiful' takes you for 35 kilometres past beautiful nature reserves and the city's highlights, such as Working Island, the Bataviakwartier and Natuurpark Lelystad.

Oostvaardersplassen
The starting point of the route is immediately a unique experience. The pristine marshlands of National Park Nieuw Land give an amazing impression of the Dutch landscape of thousands of years ago. The vast ponds and wild grasslands provide space for large grazers and countless birds.

Working Island
Experience Lelystad's history on Working Island, the place where engineer Lely's plan to reclaim land from water started. This is where the reclamation of Eastern Flevoland began. Breathe in the rich history as you cycle past the original barrages, the Wortman pumping station and the difference in height at the lock.

Bataviakwartier
The Bataviakwartier offers countless opportunities. With more than 250 well-known fashion brands, Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet is a true shopping paradise for real bargain hunters. Immerse yourself in national history by visiting Museum Batavialand. Experience history in the museum, at the shipyard and on board the reconstruction of the old VOC ship Batavia. The promenade at Bataviahaven is an excellent place to unwind and relax with a snack or drink overlooking the water.Time for a few extra miles? Take a closer look at landscape artwork Exposure! This 26-metre-high 'squatting man' by artist Antony Gormley consists of 1,800 unique profiles of steel and is even more impressive up close where possible.

Beach and forest
Lelystad is one of the largest municipalities in the Netherlands, due in part to the abundance of water and nature belonging to its territory. Did you know that Lelystad is two-thirds water? This is beautifully symbolised by Houtribhoekstrand and Zuigerplasbos. At Houtribhoekstrand, you will enjoy the view of the IJsselmeer. Close by is the Zuigerplasbos, created by the extraction of the sand used to build the dike along the IJsselmeer. The green landscape of the Zuigerplasbos offers an alternation of grass fields, groups of trees and bushes. This variety ensures that the site is inhabited by various small songbirds and that the fields are filled with colourful butterflies in the summer months.

Stadshart Lelystad
The route continues through Lelystad's Stadshart. In the Stadshart, you will find several architectural works that show that Lelystad is still a young city where a lot is possible. The striking Agora Theatre and the Zilverparkkade are good examples. The diamond-shaped orange building called Agora Theatre was designed by Ben van Berkel, designer of the Erasmus Bridge, among others. Sparkling architecture with lots of space, light and luxury was the starting point for the Zilverkade. All offices and residential towers have a great diversity in architecture, as they were designed by different architects.

Natuurpark Lelystad
Cycle through Natuurpark Lelystad and come face to face with red deer, Przewalski horses or even moose. Nowhere else will you get so close to these special animal species. Natuurpark Lelystad is the place to experience space, tranquillity and the beautiful Flevoland nature.
